Bite Mi!

Alright, this place is located on Guadalupe and Between MLK and 21st.

It’s finally open for good. It’s been closing on and off for a while due to some issues.

I’m Vietnamese and I know what type of banh mi I like. And BITE MI, quite frankly, is not what I like.

Frank’s

A new comer to the warehouse scene is Frank’s: A scrumptuous purveyor of pork and all of it’s tasty buddies :)   Located on Colorado between 5th and 4th next to Cuba Libre and thePhoenix, its price point is actually what you would expect of warehouse district, though capped at reasonability (ranging around $4 to 8 depending). Their dogs have some of the most interesting concepts I’ve tried (the Chicago and slaw dogs are delish, and I fell in love with the Jackalope) They also have daily specials which are pretty dope! I got to try their Notorios P.I.G and a BACON CUPCAKE!  I really recommend grabbing their lil smokie corn dog bites($4 more) or their chili cheese waffle fries ($6, but this is enough to fill you, even if shared).

El Taquito

Simply for me the BEST lil taco joint off of Riverside, I enthusiastically bring all my friends here after a late night of … chatting, and …watching other people drink :)

If you’re heading south on i-35, exit Riverside, make a left, and there’s a snall little road on your right after you pass the Jack-in-the-box, but before you get to Parker ln./Arena dr.

Gourdough’s

gourdough's

Gourmet cupcakes are in now days, so why not gourmet donuts? When a friend told me that he could barely finish 1 donut from here, I thought he was a pansy. But, after taking a few bites of this trailer’s beautiful mounds of fried dough and heavenly(or devlishly) sweet toppings, I retract my earlier thought.

Baguette House!

Located on Braker and Lamar

Best Vietnamese Banh Mi’s in town.

Heard about this place through a friend, checked it out. Loved it. Service is great, friendly Vietnamese folks. I like the Banh Mi Xa Xiu (BBQ Pork) Delicious. I also like their fruit smoothies. They offer other pastries and food.

4-5 bucks a sandwich I think.

Great for a light lunch.

Mangia!

Located on 35th and Guadalupe

Mangia Chicage Stuffed Pizza

Jocelyn and I were craving something cheesey today so we decided to get some pizza. Ordered us some Mangia Fries (Double Fried French Fries), which included their house special sauce (tastes like some white junk with relish) and a medium Thin Crust pizza with Pepperoni and Sausage.

Fries were good, pizza was aight. Not the best pizza I’ve ever had, but not bad. Pricing is average.  A bit heavy for lunch, had some leftovers. 2 slices left, let me know if you want it. Deliciously Fat!

DEUCE,

Chris

Paggi House

Located just past the bridge going south on Lamar, tucked away on a side road going east on Riverside dr, Paggi House is a jewel of fine cuisine amidst Austin’s quirky snacking goodness.

Reservations went smoothly, actually they were able to seat me before my reservation time.  The bartender on their outside patio was fully knowledgeable about their LARGE variety of drinks, and actually turned me onto my now favorite bottle of scotch: Lagavulin 16.  It has a great smokey aftertaste and the flavors really open up if you add 3 or so ice cubes to the top of it!

So onto the food!

To start off I had the Lobster Bisque, though was highly tempted to go off the Restaurant week menu and sample their Veal Sweatbreads (truffled brioche, fava beans w/ sherry vinegar cream).  The Bisque was richly balanced, not too much cream, and the diced asian pears in it add a delightful texture change & sweetness.

Next was the Mero Sea Bass. Being sake roasted, had a nice crist texture on the outside, but the inside litterally melted in my mouth, and the wilted spinach and campari tomatoes were a great pairing for their miso sauce.

As great of a meal I’ve had so far, I had to cap it off sweetly, so I ordered their homemade bread pudding.  Was topped off with various berries, and a scoop of expresso icecream.  I pair this with a small serving of Moscato (a very sweet dessert wine that goes well IMO with anything with starch content).

All in all, the dinner was exquisite, the waiting staff catered to my every request, and the food was amazing.  I only wish restaurant week was restaurant month so I could come back for more!

Until next time,
David

Rudy’s BBQ

Yesterday, Jocelyn and I were planning on going to Bite Mi, the new Vietnamese Banh Mi shop. They were still not open, so instead, our friends invited us to go to Rudy’s.

I know, I know, everyone’s been there. Yeah yeah. Die

This was my first time actually eating AT Rudy’s. i’ve had it before, but that was because a friend brought me some.

We ordered a pound of Extra Moist Brisket and half a link of sausage. Good stuff. Unlimited bread, take some home. (If you’re that poor)

Also ordered some Cream Corn and Potatoes. Would’ve ordered a root beer, but that would be too fattening.

Highly recommended, many locations.
