Fun atmosphere. Filled with awesome people dancing and awesome music. We went on a Friday night, when a band called The Brew was playing. They were amazing. I wish I could salsa.

The wait is a little long if they’re crowded, but you get to sit at the bar, listen to good music, and dance. S’all good.

This place is a bit on the pricer end, so come prepared.

Oh, and it’s a cozy place. Good place to take the ladies, fellas.

Jo’s!

Jo’s is a fun quaint place to hang out and catch some pretty good food. There are two locations one in 2nd district and the other in SoCo district. The two Jo’s are very different in atmosphere but the food quality is the same. On a nice pretty day I love to sit outside and enjoy my food especially their homemade cheesecake.

El Taquito

Simply for me the BEST lil taco joint off of Riverside, I enthusiastically bring all my friends here after a late night of … chatting, and …watching other people drink :)

If you’re heading south on i-35, exit Riverside, make a left, and there’s a snall little road on your right after you pass the Jack-in-the-box, but before you get to Parker ln./Arena dr.

Cheese Berry!

Located on Bellaire and Beltway 8. Next door to Yummy Cafe and 22 Hair Salon.

This place was odd. My friends Bao and Tom told us to check it out. It is an Asian Pizza shop. They basically take Asian Dishes and put it on pizza crust and add cheese. Weird right? The service here is EXCELLENT. The owner is SO nice.

We sampled a variety of pizzas.

1. Spicy Kimchi Bulgolgi Pizza – This is probably their most popular Asian Specialty Pizza. Pork bulgolgi and kimchi sauce with other ingredients. Pretty good. It’s like Korean BBQ in Italy. Awesome combo. $8.50 for a 10″

2. Black Pepper Beef Pizza – This was pretty much what it sounds like. Black pepper beef, cheese, pizza dough. Haha Not awesome, but not bad. $9.50 for a 10″

3. Teriyaki Chicken Pizza – Eh, not that great. Very soy-saucey. The teriyaki sauce overpowers a lot of the flavors. $8.50 for a 10″

4. Honey Peach Pizza – a delicious desert pizza made with Peaches and I believe a yogurt cream. It was awesome. Totally worth $6.50

To drink, I got a Strawberry Cream Slush for $2.77 as usual. It was one of the better tasting strawberry shakes I’ve had in my life.  Bao got a Plum Tea, he enjoyed it.

BTW, Bao Le will be joining our team of writers to take care of the restaurants he goes to in Houston.

This place is awesome and unique. Go support local business!

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf!

Located on N. Lamar and 38th (Also has a location on S. Lamar)

I ordered a Pom-Blueberry Smoothie. Not bad, but as it melted, it got gross.

Jocelyn ordered a Tropical Passion Tea Latte. She enjoyed it. We also got some pasta for fun. I ended up eating most of it. The drinks are averagely priced. 2-4 bucks.

Enjoy it,

Bennu Coffee!

Located on MLK and Poquito. East of I35

Austin, TX

Bennu is a 24hr Coffee Shop.

Always packed, this place serves delicious drinks named after classic books. Ex. Pride and Prejudice.

The parking lot is kinda small, and there are limited tables. However, if you do find both, you can enjoy good drinks, pizza and other food.

This place is for hipsters. It’s got weird people working at it and playing their weird music. The bathroom is ridiculous! They have a giant chalkboard in there, and you can write whatever you want. Jocelyn loves studying here. I honestly can’t get shit done because there are way too many distractions here, but whatevs.

Very artsy place. Good overall.

Paggi House

Located just past the bridge going south on Lamar, tucked away on a side road going east on Riverside dr, Paggi House is a jewel of fine cuisine amidst Austin’s quirky snacking goodness.

Reservations went smoothly, actually they were able to seat me before my reservation time.  The bartender on their outside patio was fully knowledgeable about their LARGE variety of drinks, and actually turned me onto my now favorite bottle of scotch: Lagavulin 16.  It has a great smokey aftertaste and the flavors really open up if you add 3 or so ice cubes to the top of it!

So onto the food!

To start off I had the Lobster Bisque, though was highly tempted to go off the Restaurant week menu and sample their Veal Sweatbreads (truffled brioche, fava beans w/ sherry vinegar cream).  The Bisque was richly balanced, not too much cream, and the diced asian pears in it add a delightful texture change & sweetness.

Next was the Mero Sea Bass. Being sake roasted, had a nice crist texture on the outside, but the inside litterally melted in my mouth, and the wilted spinach and campari tomatoes were a great pairing for their miso sauce.

As great of a meal I’ve had so far, I had to cap it off sweetly, so I ordered their homemade bread pudding.  Was topped off with various berries, and a scoop of expresso icecream.  I pair this with a small serving of Moscato (a very sweet dessert wine that goes well IMO with anything with starch content).

All in all, the dinner was exquisite, the waiting staff catered to my every request, and the food was amazing.  I only wish restaurant week was restaurant month so I could come back for more!

Until next time,
David

Kick Butt Coffee!

Located in the Triangle off of Guadalupe and 45th

Kick Butt Coffee is an Asian Kung-Fu themed drink shop. It has a fully stocked bar, and a special drink menu, that apparently none of the workers know how to make. The owner made a menu, but didn’t leave them recipes. Oops.

The place has weapons hanging everywhere and always has a movie playing. I’ve seen “The Forbidden Kingdom, Some Shaolin Monk Movie, and Fantastic Four.”

The drinks are decent.

Tonight, there was a folk band playing live and weird people dancing. Kinda weird.
